The Motet is a Boulder, CO based band. Spearheaded by drummer extraordinaire Dave Watts, The Motet continues its tradition as one of the most eclectic bands on the scene today. The Motet’s unique blend of Afro-Beat, Afro-Cuban, Latin, Funk and Jazz traditions defies categorization. Drawing on the wealth of musical inspiration in the band’s hometown of Boulder, CO, The Motet never fails to inspire fans and enthrall the crowd. The music is a grooving improvisation that awakens and stirs the soul. There are two constants in the world of The Motet: evolving music and matchless musicianship. The constantly evolving sound of The Motet defies definition as the band takes the music to new levels with every performance. Whatever the occasion, wherever the gig, The Motet is winning the hearts, souls and dancing feet of fans all over the country.

Every Halloween it has become tradition for The Motet to pick an artist to cover and play a wide variety of tunes from their catalog and put their Motet spin. In 2004 it was Prince and it was awesome.

On a personal note, the only downside to this show was the college students outside the venue decide to riot - because they're cool like that. Myself and about 20 other guys were there that night because my friend was getting married the next day - and this was his bachelor party. They announced there was a riot going on outside the Fox Theatre over the PA, so we were warned. However the groom wasn't as fast as the rest of us and got nabbed and thrown in the drunk tank I included the "riot announcement," which is from the audience recording source of this show, for a complete archive of that night.
